The future of USB keys?
dataSTICKIES look like traditional sticky notes but are carriers of digital information, just like a USB key.

Geminid Meteor Shower
The annual Geminid meteor shower peaks next week. Sadly, the Moon will be near-full brightening the sky for most of the night causing rates to be lower. However, the Geminids will still put on a good show pretty much anywhere that isn’t overcast, so don’t worry. Southern Hemisphere viewers will see lower rates, with the peak being ~40-60 meteors/hour in some locations, so you won’t be missing out as was the case for the Persieds earlier this year. Use the Fluxtimator to estimate the rate in your location.
Meteors will be visible when the radiant point is above the horizon from your location. The radiant point is in the constellation Gemini (Jupiter will be too, so get your binocs/telescopes), right next to the Orion constellation. You can spot meteors anywhere in the sky and it is not necessary to look towards the radiant point as some may believe. So go out, find somewhere dark, look up and enjoy the show.

Calcified animals found washed up on the shores of Lake Natron in Tanzania and posed as they would be found in real life. The animals become “calcified” as their bodies become encrusted in sodium carbonate or bicarbonate when the water level of the lake drops.
This deadly lake receives its harsh composition from the neighboring volcano, Ol Doinyo as alkali-rich natrocarbonatites from the volcano enter the rainwater run-off, polluting the water. There is no calcium in the lake, however there are inflowing freshwater channels that precipitate and mix with the high pH alkaline water which also contributes to its very unique composition.

How cool is it that when you take all the cells out of an organ it still looks like an organ?
I remember when I was in high school and still very confused about how tissues worked, because all anyone taught me was that we’re made up of piles of cells hung on bones. But that’s not how it is! Cells build themselves little hammocks of polymer and densely branched glycoproteins; we’re like onions, layers of membrane over tough rubbery collagen, huge protein scaffolds cradling slippery organs.
Bodies are not made of cells — bodies are made by cells.

There is a British boutique ice cream company Lick Me I’m Delicious that have been working with Jellyfish bioluminescent proteins to produce ice cream that glows in the dark!
How it works? The proteins of the jellyfish are activated by calcium and due to a difference in pH levels the more neutral pH of the ice cream reacts with the higher acidity of your mouth causing the ice cream to glow in the dark when licked. The ice cream is entirely edible and is ~$220 per scoop!
